Please Don't Rake Yard Waste into the Streets!
| Yard waste (leaves, sticks, branches, grass clippings, etc.) should NOT be raked into the street. The street sweeper cannot clean up yard waste, and the debris clogs the storm drains, which can lead to flooding. In addition, because the storm collection system drains to the lake, placing yard waste in the street pollutes the lake water. Yard waste placed in garbage cans (32 gallon maximum capacity) or biodegradable brown paper leaf bags at curbside will be collected with the weekly solid waste collection. Yard waste in plastic bags or boxes will not be collected. Biodegradable brown paper leaf bags (30 gallon capacity) can be purchased for $.30 each at the Department of Public Works at 205 Saltonstall Street. Placement of yard waste in the street is a violation of the Solid Waste Ordinance.
